How To Make A Magnetic Pen

Hey there, crafty friend! Today, we're going to make something magnetically awesome - a magnetic pen! You know, those nifty little things that stick to your fridge, your whiteboard, or even your forehead (not that I've ever tried that last one). So, grab your supplies and let's get started!

What You'll Need

First things first, let's round up our materials. You'll need:

  • Plastic pen casing (you can use an old pen that's run out of ink)
  • Strong magnet (a neodymium magnet works best)
  • Super glue
  • Scissors or a craft knife
  • Rubbing alcohol (optional, for cleaning)

Simple, right? Now, let's get our hands dirty!

Prep Your Pen

First, we need to prep our pen casing. If you're using an old pen, carefully remove the ink cartridge and any internal springs. You should be left with just the plastic casing. If it's a bit grimy, give it a quick clean with some rubbing alcohol.

Next, we need to make a little hole for our magnet. Using your scissors or craft knife, carefully cut a small slit in the side of the pen, just big enough to fit your magnet. Be careful not to cut yourself - we want to make a pen, not a bloody mess!

Magnet Time!

Now, let's introduce the star of the show - the magnet! Grab your neodymium magnet and give it a quick wipe with a damp cloth to remove any dust. Then, carefully insert it into the slit you made in the pen casing. The magnet should fit snugly, but if it's a bit too tight, you can gently widen the slit with your craft knife.

Once your magnet is securely in place, it's time to seal the deal. Grab your super glue and apply a small amount to the inside of the slit. Be careful not to get any on your fingers - trust me, you don't want super glue fingers. It's not a good look, and it makes texting a real pain.

Let It Dry

Now, we need to let the glue dry. This could take anywhere from a few minutes to half an hour, depending on the type of super glue you're using. While you're waiting, why not put the kettle on and make yourself a nice cup of tea? Or, if you're feeling fancy, a coffee. But remember, too much caffeine can make your pen twitchy, and nobody wants a pen with the shakes!

Test It Out

Alright, the glue should be dry by now, so it's time to test our magnetic masterpiece! Grab a metal surface - a fridge, a filing cabinet, or even a old saucepan will do - and give your pen a tap. If everything's gone to plan, your pen should stick like a magnet (well, duh, it is a magnet)! If it's not sticking, don't worry, just give it another quick wipe with a damp cloth and try again.

You Did It!

And there you have it, folks! You've just made a magnetic pen. Isn't that just the coolest? Now you can stick your pen to anything metal, which means no more losing it down the back of the sofa (although, let's be honest, you'll probably still lose it down the back of the sofa).

So, go forth and magnetize! Stick your pen to your fridge, your whiteboard, your forehead (still not recommending that one), and remember, every time you use your magnetic pen, you're not just writing, you're sticking it to the man. Or at least, to the metal.

Keep crafting, keep creating, and most importantly, keep smiling!
