So, I've been thinking, you know, over my third latte here, about this thing that's been on my mind lately. My boyfriend, he's a great guy, really. Loves me to bits, makes me laugh 'til my sides hurt. But, and here's where I need to spill the beans, I wish he'd lose a few pounds. Don't get me wrong, I love him just the way he is, but I want him to be around for the long haul, you know?
I mean, I'm not saying he's got a spare tire big enough to be a trampoline or anything. It's just, well, he's carrying a little extra around the middle. Enough to make me worry about his health, you know? I've tried dropping hints, like suggesting we go for more walks or that we try out that new spin class downtown. But he just laughs it off, says he's 'happily married to his couch'.
I've been reading up on this stuff, and I know it's not just about vanity. Extra weight can lead to all sorts of health issues - high blood pressure, heart disease, even diabetes. And I don't want that for him. I want him to be around to annoy me for the next fifty years, you know?

But Here's the Thing...
I don't want to be that girlfriend, the one who's always nagging about his weight. I want him to want to make a change, for himself, not because I'm bugging him about it. I want him to look in the mirror and see what I see - a guy who's worth investing in, who's worth taking care of.
I've tried talking to him about it, you know, in that gentle way. I tell him about these amazing health benefits of losing weight, how it can boost his energy, improve his mood, even help him sleep better. But he just smiles, pats his belly, and says, 'I'm happy just the way I am, babe. You should be too.'
So, What's a Girl to Do?
I've been thinking about this a lot. I mean, I could start cooking healthier meals, maybe hide the ice cream in the back of the freezer. But I don't want to manipulate him into it. I want him to choose to make a change, for himself.
Signs Your Boyfriend Wants You To Lose Weight
I've been considering talking to him about setting some fitness goals together. You know, like a team thing. Maybe we could start with something simple, like a weekly hike or a dance class. Something fun, something we can do together. I mean, who knows, maybe I'll end up being the one who needs to lose a few pounds!
I guess what I'm saying is, I'm not trying to change him. I just want him to be the healthiest version of himself. I want him to be around for the big stuff - like our future kids' graduations, our fiftieth wedding anniversary, you know? I want us to grow old together, not just grow older.
So, here's to hoping he'll see the light, or at least the scale, soon. Until then, I'll keep loving him, keep nudging him, and keep praying for his metabolism to kick into high gear. Because, at the end of the day, all I want is for him to be happy, healthy, and here to stay.
