From Tooting to Town Hall

Born and bred in Tooting, South London, Sadiq Khan has come a long way from his humble beginnings. The son of a Pakistani bus driver, Khan's journey from local councilor to Mayor of London is nothing short of inspiring. He took the mayoral reins in 2016, succeeding Boris Johnson, and has been steering the ship ever since.

Remember when Khan was elected? It was a big deal. He became the first Muslim mayor of a major Western capital, and the first Mayor of London from a BAME (Black, Asian, and minority ethnic) background. Talk about breaking barriers!

Khan's London: What's He Been Up To?

So, what's Khan been cooking up in City Hall? Well, he's made quite a few waves. One of his first moves was to introduce the Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) in central London. It's like a tough love approach to clean air - if your car or van doesn't meet the ULEZ standards, you'll have to pay a daily charge. Ouch!

Then there's the Night Tube. Khan extended the 24-hour service to include the entire Victoria and Central lines, making London's nightlife even more vibrant. Cheers to that!
