Last Of The Summer Wine Who Is Still Alive

So, there I was, sitting in my favorite armchair, cup of tea in hand, and the TV was on. I wasn't really watching, just letting it hum in the background. Then, out of the corner of my eye, I saw him - Compo! I mean, I knew it wasn't really him, but you know what I mean. It got me thinking, who from that beloved show, Last of the Summer Wine, is still with us?

Now, I'm not one to dwell on the past, but Last of the Summer Wine was a bit of a phenomenon, wasn't it? It was like a warm hug on a cold day, a laugh when you needed one. It ran for an incredible 31 series, from 1973 to 2010. That's right, 31 series! It's like it was always there, a constant in our ever-changing world.

But enough about the show, let's talk about the people who brought it to life. You might be surprised to know that a few of them are still with us. Let's dive in, shall we?

Brian Wilde - Foggy Dewhurst

Now, I've got to start with Brian Wilde. He played Foggy, the sensible one (well, as sensible as they got in Holmfirth), and he's still with us! Born in 1927, he's a sprightly 94 years old. That's right, he's older than the show itself! He's been keeping busy, too. He's been involved in various stage productions and even wrote a book called Foggy's Tales of the Summer Wine.

I mean, can you believe it? Foggy, the man who always had a plan, is still out there, making plans. It's like he's still trying to keep Compo and Clegg out of trouble. Speaking of which...

Peter Sallis - Norman Clegg

Here's another one who's still with us. Peter Sallis, the voice of Wallace in Wallace and Gromit, played Norman Clegg, the long-suffering husband of Ivy. He passed away in 2017, but he was 96 when he did. That's right, he lived to see the 21st century, and then some!

I remember watching him in Last of the Summer Wine and thinking, "How does he do it?" He was always so patient, so calm. I suppose that's the mark of a great actor, isn't it? Making us believe they're someone else entirely.

Kathy Staff - Ivy Clegg

Now, I've got to mention Kathy Staff. She played Ivy, Norman's wife, and she's still with us too! Well, she would be if she hadn't passed away in 2008. She was 80, so she had a good run, didn't she?

I remember her as Ivy, the woman who could make even the most ridiculous situations seem normal. She had a way of making you laugh, even when you weren't sure you should be. That's a gift, isn't it?

So there you have it, folks. A little trip down memory lane. It's always nice to know that some things, and some people, just refuse to fade away. It's like they're a part of us, a part of our collective consciousness. And that's something worth celebrating.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I think it's time for another cup of tea. And maybe, just maybe, I'll put on an old episode of Last of the Summer Wine. After all, it's not every day you get to catch up with old friends.
