Who Sang The Theme Tune For Only Fools And Horses

So, you're curious about who sang that iconic tune for Only Fools and Horses, huh? Well, grab a cuppa, let's chat about it.

Meet Kenny Ball and His Jazzmen

Now, you might be thinking, "Kenny who?" Stick with me, mate, we'll get there. Kenny Ball was a trumpeter, a jolly good one at that. He was the leader of this fantastic band, Kenny Ball and His Jazzmen. They were the ones who brought that swinging, brassy theme tune to life.

That Familiar Tune

You know the one, right? The one that gets your toes tapping and your heart feeling all warm and fuzzy. It's called "The Flea and the Dixie," a tune written by Ronnie Hazlehurst, the show's musical director. But it was Kenny and his band who made it the theme tune for one of Britain's best-loved sitcoms.

How It All Started

Picture this: it's the late '60s, the BBC is looking for a theme tune for their new sitcom. They wanted something lively, something that would get people hooked from the get-go. Enter Kenny Ball and His Jazzmen. They recorded "The Flea and the Dixie," and the rest, as they say, is history.

A Match Made in Heaven

That tune was like Del Boy and Rodney - a perfect match. It set the tone for the show, didn't it? It was cheeky, it was lively, it was fun. Just like the Trotters themselves. It's no wonder it became one of the most recognizable theme tunes in British TV history.
