Is New York City Bigger Than London

So, I was standing in Times Square the other day, you know, that place that's always buzzing like a beehive on a sunny day. I looked around, and I thought to myself, "Wow, this place is huge!" Then it hit me, I've been to London too, and I've always heard people comparing the two. But, is New York City really bigger than London? Let's dive in, shall we?

First things first, let's talk area

When we're talking about size, we usually mean the total area, right? Well, according to the numbers, London is the bigger one. It's got a total area of about 1,572 square kilometers, while New York City is around 784 square kilometers. That's a pretty significant difference, isn't it?

But wait, don't go packing your bags for London just yet. Remember, size isn't everything. Let's explore a bit more.

Population: The real buzz

Now, let's talk about the people. New York City is a lot more crowded than London. As of 2021, NYC has about 8.4 million residents, while London has around 8.9 million. So, even though London has more people, NYC packs them in tighter.

You might be thinking, "But I've heard NYC is the city that never sleeps!" And you're right. NYC's population density is about 10,800 people per square kilometer, compared to London's 5,500. That's a lot of people in a small space!

But what about the boroughs?

You might be wondering about NYC's boroughs. Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, The Bronx, and Staten Island - they're all part of the city, right? Well, yes, but they're also quite spread out. If we were to compare just Manhattan to London, Manhattan would be the smaller one, with an area of about 59 square kilometers compared to London's 1,572.

But remember, we're talking about cities here, not just one borough. So, let's not forget the other boroughs and their contributions to NYC's size and character.
