When Is London Marathon Ballot Announced

So, there I was, eyes glued to my laptop, fingers tapping nervously on the keyboard. It was that time of the year again, the London Marathon ballot announcement day. I'd been training for months, my running shoes were worn out, and my playlist was ready. But there was one thing standing between me and the starting line - the dreaded ballot.

Now, you might be wondering, why the drama? Isn't it just a race? Well, yes, but it's the race. The one that shuts down the city, attracts thousands of runners, and raises millions for charity. The one that's so popular, you've got a better chance of finding a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow than securing a place without the ballot.

So, when is this mysterious ballot announced?

Alright, enough with the suspense. The London Marathon ballot is usually announced in October. Yes, that's right, October. As in, months before the actual marathon. It's like waiting for Christmas when you're a kid - you know it's coming, but it feels like an eternity away.

Now, you might be thinking, "Why so early?" Well, it's all about planning. The marathon organizers need time to sort out the entries, deal with any appeals, and get everything ready for the big day. Plus, it gives you plenty of time to start training, or to wallow in self-pity if you didn't get in. (Not that I'm speaking from experience or anything.)

What happens after the ballot?

Once the ballot is announced, the waiting game begins. If you're lucky enough to get a place, you'll receive an email with your runner number and a link to the runner's area on the marathon website. Here, you can find all the important information about the race, like the route, the rules, and how to raise money for charity.

But what if you didn't get in? Well, don't despair. There are still a few ways to secure your place. You could run for a charity - many have guaranteed places for runners who raise a certain amount of money. Or you could try again next year. After all, there's always next year, right?
