Sumsub has partnered with TELUS Digital to provide the company with enhanced tools for verifying and onboarding remote employees, ensuring a more secure and efficient hiring process.

“The growing sophistication and instances of fraudulent activities, ranging from VPN usage, fake IDs, multiple devices used by single applicants and deepfake videos, underscores the need for an identity verification partner that stays ahead of evolving and more sophisticated threats. Sumsub’s tailored solutions are helping us reduce malicious incidents while managing costs through scalable security measures. This partnership strengthens our ability to safeguard our platform and build greater confidence and trust with our clients through proactive and effective risk management,” said Enda Cunnane, Vice president, AI services delivery, TELUS Digital.

As remote work becomes increasingly common, businesses must adopt reliable methods to verify employee identities and maintain security throughout the employment lifecycle. Sumsub equips TELUS Digital with a comprehensive digital verification toolset, covering key phases such as recruitment, onboarding, and daily authentication processes.

“The goals of our companies correspond since we both strive for delivering the best customer experience possible without compromising security. Fueled by innovative technologies and customized creative solutions, our approach allows us to drive growth and market expansion of the businesses we serve across many verticals while maintaining trust and compliance with regulations,” said Andrew Sever, co-founder and CEO of Sumsub.

The verification suite includes phone and email verification, IP risk assessment, and ID verification, which help confirm employee identities at multiple touchpoints. In addition, Sumsub’s AI-powered Optical Character Recognition (OCR) technology allows the system to process various document formats—whether scanned images or PDFs—across multiple languages.

Addressing the risk of identity fraud

The rise of identity fraud presents a challenge for businesses operating in a digital-first world. According to the Sumsub Identity Fraud Report 2024, fraud attempts have more than doubled in recent years, increasing from 1.1% to 2.6% between 2021 and 2024. However, external fraud is not the only concern—internal threats, such as employee fraud, can have significant financial and reputational consequences for organizations.

A 2024 report by the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE) emphasises the financial impact of occupational fraud, revealing that large companies with over 10,000 employees face a median loss of $200,000 due to internal fraud cases. These risks are further amplified by the rise of remote work and the growing accessibility of AI-driven tools, which can be exploited for deceptive purposes.

Organisations must implement strong verification measures to minimize risks and protect company resources at every stage of employment, from hiring to daily operations. By integrating Sumsub’s verification technology, TELUS Digital is proactively safeguarding employee authentication, reducing fraud risks, and ensuring a secure digital workplace.
