Aldi has launched a fund to support customers that are struggling with the costs at the start of the new academic year. As part of the back-to-school fund, the discount store will give away vouchers worth £100 to parents throughout September.
“We know the back-to-school period can be a real pinch point for family finances, especially after having to contend with keeping the kids entertained during the summer school holidays,” says Liz Fox, national sustainability director at Aldi UK.
This initiative has been launched after internal research found 73% of parents admit to worrying about costs related to their children’s schooling at the start of the academic year. The retailers also found that parents already spent over £100 per child during the start of the new school year.
Alongside this, Aldi will also donate £20,000 to good causes focused on supporting children. This includes the community giving platform, Neighbourly.
“As the UK’s lowest-priced supermarket, we’re committed to doing whatever we can to support parents in making their money go further and that’s why we’re giving parents an extra helping hand via our Back-to-School Fund this September,” continues Fox.
“We’re giving our customers the chance to apply for vouchers to help parents cover the cost of packed lunches and other essentials they’ll need to stock up on throughout the school year.”
This scheme highlights the importance of assisting vulnerable customers during times of financial difficulty, of which other companies should follow suit.
