Amazon Web Services (AWS) has announced the launch of its new Mexico (Central) Region. The new region will provide businesses, developers, government agencies, and non-profit organizations with enhanced access to AWS’s secure and reliable infrastructure.
It allows local organizations to store data within Mexico, ensuring lower latency and improved application performance.
“With access to secure and reliable infrastructure, along with a broad set of AWS technologies, this new AWS Region will help businesses across Mexico sit at the centre of AI and ML innovation. We’re proud to deepen our investment in Mexico to help support business transformation, foster technology talent, build cloud skills, and create opportunities for economic growth,” said Prasad Kalyanaraman, vice president of Infrastructure Services at AWS.
Planning to invest over $5 billion in Mexico
AWS’s investment in the new region is part of a broader long-term commitment, with the company planning to invest over $5 billion in Mexico over the next 15 years. Moreover, the new region is expected to contribute approximately $10 billion to Mexico’s GDP and support the creation of over 7,000 full-time jobs annually in various sectors such as construction, engineering, telecommunications, and more.
This infrastructure expansion fosters innovation and creates new economic opportunities, especially in cutting-edge fields like machine learning and artificial intelligence.
The AWS Mexico (Central) Region consists of three Availability Zones, providing businesses with reliable infrastructure for designing applications for high availability and fault tolerance. This new region will also support a variety of industries, from startups to enterprises, allowing them to scale operations, enhance security, and accelerate their digital transformation efforts.
Providing generative AI training
The launch of this region strengthens AWS’s ongoing investments in Mexico, including initiatives such as AWS Outposts and CloudFront edge locations. AWS has also been upskilling local talent, providing cloud and generative AI training to thousands of individuals in Mexico through partnerships with educational institutions and government initiatives.
