Australian couple distressed after passenger’s body placed beside them on flight

An Australian couple described a “traumatic” experience on a Qatar Airways flight after a passenger died mid-flight and her body was placed beside them for the remaining four hours. Mitchell Ring and Jennifer Colin said the cabin crew responded quickly but, unable to move the deceased woman to business class, seated her in Mr. Ring’s previous seat without offering him another.

The couple criticised the airline for lacking proper protocols and failing to offer support or counselling after the incident. Qatar Airways apologised for any distress caused and stated it is contacting affected passengers in accordance with its procedures.

Singapore’s biggest bank to slash 4,000 jobs as AI reshapes workforce

Singapore-based DBS Group is reducing its workforce by 10%, cutting 4,000 contract and temporary roles as AI takes over more tasks. As projects conclude, permanent staff remain unaffected, with job cuts occurring through natural attrition.

Outgoing CEO Piyush Gupta announced that they will create 1,000 new AI-related positions. This highlights DBS’s decade-long investment in AI, which now powers 800 models across 350 use cases and delivers an economic impact exceeding S$1bn (£592m).

Also, DBS is among the first major banks to detail AI’s impact, reinforcing global discussions on balancing AI adoption with workforce strategies.

UK may deport international graduates without jobs after two years

The UK government is considering deporting international students who fail to secure graduate-level jobs within two years of their studies. The upcoming immigration white paper will introduce stricter visa rules to reduce net migration, which hit 728,000 last year.

Many have been concerned about the impact on higher education and the economy, with the University and College Union calling it harmful to the sector. Additionally, ministers aim to cut reliance on overseas workers and link immigration policies to domestic workforce growth. The Home Office has not confirmed details but promises a comprehensive plan in the white paper.
