Amazon Prime Video has unveiled a feature to enhance the viewing experience without the risk of spoilers. “X-Ray Recaps,” a generative AI tool, offers summaries of episodes, entire seasons, and even some specific scenes, helping viewers refresh their memory or get an overview without worrying about unintentionally encountering central plot reveals.

Unlike standard episode summaries that may inadvertently give away important details, X-Ray Recaps are designed with “spoiler guardrails.” AI-generated recaps only provide relevant context, so audiences can catch up on missed details without ruining future twists or surprises.

X-Ray Recaps is the newest addition to Prime Video’s X-Ray feature, which offers on-screen information about cast members, background trivia, and additional content when viewers pause the screen. With this new feature, available first to U.S. Fire TV users, Amazon is expanding the scope of in-show content to include season and episode recaps at the viewer’s command. To use it, viewers navigate to the TV show’s detail page, where a rewind icon allows them to choose from options to recap the current episode, the entire season, or even previous seasons.

Powered by Amazon’s AI tools, such as Amazon Bedrock and Amazon SageMaker, X-Ray Recaps utilises a combination of custom AI models to analyse video elements, dialogue, and subtitles. This allows the AI to identify key moments and build concise summaries tailored to the current scene or episode. This aspect benefits viewers who might return to a series after a break or switch between shows and need a quick refresher.
