Many of us take our technology for granted, it is almost unimaginable to think of people without access to smartphones or laptops. Yet there are many without them. Unable to access government essentials, education and career information.
In most offices, there is a regular refresh of systems, looking for a good home. A Birmingham business outsourcing firm has donated a batch of laptops to a West Midlands charity dedicated to helping disadvantaged refugees and migrants across Birmingham and the Black Country fully integrate into UK life and achieve independence.
Sigma Connected, which provides contact centre services across the utilities, retail, telecommunications and financial services sectors, has donated 20 laptops they no longer use to The Refugee & Migrant Centre charity.
The kind-hearted IT donation also includes replacement hard drives, paid for through Sigma Connected’s Community Foundation. They give the charity much-needed IT equipment and help their clients find jobs and further their education prospects through online training courses. Two of the laptops are for the charity’s own administration purposes.
Charity begins in the office
“The Refugee & Migrant Centre does an incredible amount of often unseen work to support their clients across the region. I have known them for years, and their compassion and empathy is unbelievable.” says Peter Hopgood-Gravett, director of compliance, risk and audit at Sigma Connected. “Through our Community Foundation, we have supported the charity with financial and even office furniture donations. But, to donate useful IT equipment is something different. It’s a real game changer. It will help their working environment and keep clients connected, help with training and development and enhance their job searches.

For any business with hardware approaching end-of-life, this is a reminder that they can be put to plenty of good uses. If you’re worried about business data, Computeraid is a company that securely cleanses ex-business systems. It provides them to charities with a constant need. Similar local services and in-need charities are only a search away.
