Uber has introduced a new AI assistant designed specifically for U.S. drivers. Starting in early 2025, this chatbot, powered by OpenAI’s GPT-4o, will be integrated into the Uber driver app, providing real-time assistance on all things EV-related.

The AI assistant will first focus on answering common queries about electric vehicles, including charging locations and purchasing recommendations. However, this functionality could expand to cover a wider array of topics in the future. Drivers will have easy access to the chatbot directly from the app’s home screen, and it will continuously update with the latest information to enhance user experience.

The AI assistant aims to deliver personalised responses tailored to driver’s individual needs, considering their location and relevant government incentives. Moreover, an Uber spokesperson revealed plans for drivers to interact with the chatbot through voice commands, enabling an engaging and hands-free experience. While specific language support has yet to be detailed, OpenAI’s GPT-4o boasts capabilities in over 50 languages.

Alongside the chatbot, Uber will launch an “EV mentorship program,” incentivising top-rated drivers experienced in EV use to guide their peers through the transition to electric vehicles.

Uber now provides an EV-only option in 40 cities, including major markets like New York City and Los Angeles. With these updates, Uber aims to support drivers in adopting EVs, offering a smoother and more appealing experience as they switch to cleaner, more sustainable transportation options.
