42% of London workers would want a pay rise if they had to return to the office full-time for work, a report from Bloomberg intelligence has found.

Over a third over the Londoners wanting a pay rise indicated they would request a pay rise of at least 11% if they could not work remotely.

Similarly, 39% of Parisians would demand a pay rise if they were forced back into the office without the option of flexible work.

“Lots of employees value work-life balance and the ease of working from home. Companies should try to strike a balance by offering good pay along with better work conditions and flexibility. By getting what drives their employees, employers can come up with strategies that really hit the mark.” says Ian Moore, managing director of Lodge Court, HR consultancy.

The report found that one of the obstacles for Londoners to return to the office is commuting costs. Nearly three quarters of workers in the UK capital have a 31-90 minute journey to their workplace.

This research highlights to employers that hybrid, flexible working is a must-have for the majority of employees, and can impact staff retention. Given the freedom of flexible working we have observed since the pandemic years, workers now crave a better work-life balance, and will need serious incentives to be brought back.
