Greenwich Leisure Ltd (GLL) has won the award for best Social Enterprise at the UK Business Awards 2017.
GLL was nominated in the category for its pioneering use of the ‘Social Value Calculator’ to accurately demonstrate the improvements to health, wellbeing, education, employment, and community safety which its social enterprise delivers at neighbourhood level.
The non-profit organization – which operates sports and recreation facilities on behalf of local councils in London and beyond – returned over £350million in measurable social value to UK communities in 2016/17.
Judges at the Wembley Stadium event were particularly impressed with GLL’s use of the calculator at ‘postcode level’ to help target inequalities and improve lives.
Following the win, GLL Managing Director Mark Sesnan said:
“These awards are recognition of the ‘value added’ our social enterprise brings to communities up and down the country. We exist to get more people, more active, more often and in doing so transform lives. As we approach our 25 years in the industry, the UK Business Awards are a great way to celebrate with our customers and staff.”
