Welcome to our very special New Year Edition of the PENLetter. As we enter 2014 we would like to wish all our readers and members a very happy, lucky and prosperous New Year! Our aim with our PENletter is to distil the best of all the news that we have seen over the last month and to share some of the best practice from our archives. We are keen to keep you informed of relevant events and to update our readers about items we have become aware of. Please do let us know if you find something of interest that you think others would like to hear about or indeed if you have some of your own news to share. And do let us know if there is anything we could do to improve this newsletter. We have enjoyed the highest ever volume of entries to our awards which is a superb accolade to the great work being done to improve the patient experience. The calibre was high and the judges has told us they found it both inspiring and very challenging. One judge commented “Reading these entries made me feel truly proud of our National Health Service. Please pass on my congratulations to everyone for what they have already achieved; winning PENNA is just the icing on the cake.” And of course there were great entries from other organisations too. Do join us at our best practice event on 5th February at the Birmingham and Midland Institute – both finalists and non-finalists are welcome as this is about hearing and seeing a wide range of great initiatives across the UK. PEN National Awards 2013The Wait is Finally Over!
A little robin has told me the judges have completed their scoring for PENNA 2013, and an amazing 51 finalist entries made it through to this year’s Awards Day! This is more than ever before, and due the overwhelming number of entries, and the sheer outstanding quality of submissions, our poor judges have had to be on their toes and real sticklers for detail. Those who made it through really should be extremely proud, as this was the toughest year we have ever had in terms of quality and innovation. The Awards Day and Conference will be held at the BMI (Birmingham and Midlands Institute), Central Birmingham, on Wednesday February 5th 2014 and anyone is welcome to attend. This is an all-day event, including guest speakers and a buffet lunch, exhibits and stands. There will be an opportunity to mingle and network with teams from across the UK who have taken part in the awards, and other movers and shakers in the field of patient experience. This year we are delighted to announce that Jane Cummings, Chief Nurse at NHS England will be joining us for the day, and as one of our guest speakers.
